Social Conflict Theory Class Conflict Essay - 1299 Words
The United States has a capitalist economic system, industries and trades are controlled by private owners for profit. The private owners in America will stop at nothing to drive up profits, including paying their employees starvation wages, having welfare pick up their slack, and outsourcing American jobs. Corporations will even stoop as low as not giving employees enough hours to be considered full-time, just so they can get around providing them with health insurance. Even though they provide a service to the economy, the damage these corporations do to individualââ¬â¢s lives outweigh that service. Karl Marx constructed a social conflict theory called class conflict, this theory states that people have one of two basic relationships to the means of production they either own productive property or they labor to others. These different productive roles directly stem from different social classes. When there is severe social stratification, more social conflict arises. Marx predicted that because of this, the working majority would come together to overthrow this capitalistic system in favor for a more socialistic system, which would put an end to class differences. But unfortunately, the United States has not heeded these warnings. The citizens in the US continue to praise the broken system that is used (Macionis 2012). Even though Marx predicted the capitalism would fail, itââ¬â¢s still prevalent in American society.
